After the recovery of power in the plateau, the mechanical load and thermal load of the diesel generator set increase, with the thermal load performance being more prominent. The increase in thermal load is the main factor limiting the power utilization of the plateau diesel generator set.
As the altitude increases, the air pressure decreases, and the boiling point of water decreases. Water-cooled diesel generator sets often suffer from the "boiling" of the water tank, which affects their operation. On the one hand, due to a decrease in the concentration of the combustible mixture, the combustion speed slows down, leading to post combustion phenomena, an increase in exhaust temperature, and an increase in thermal load. On the other hand, as the air density decreases, the mass flow rate of the fan decreases, and the cooling effect of the diesel generator set deteriorates. Excessive heat load not only reduces the performance of diesel generator sets, but also easily causes cylinder pulling.
Therefore, diesel generator sets need to control not only the increase in heat load generated by post combustion, but also the temperature rise caused by the cooling system's decrease in heat dissipation capacity at high altitudes.
